I earned an English Degree in Literature from Southern California College in 1995.  After a summer spent working at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland, I was fortunate to land a position as a web copywriter and editor at Intel.  The work was tedious but what I learned has served me very well and I will always be grateful for my managers, who taught me valuable lessons about working in corporate America (and put up with my grumbling).

After three years in the cubicle, I left in 1999 to travel the back-roads of America in a battered mini-van, visiting all the cities named Springfield in a 6 month personal odyssey.  It was a goal I'd had since grade school when I learned (wrongly, it turns out) that Springfield was the most common place name in the USA (Fairview holds the title).

I started Surfperch in early 2000 as the (first) Internet bubble popped.  This worked in my favor because many companies were letting their in-house web teams go while searching for affordable options.  I was cheap and eager to learn.

Our company's focus started very simple (clean, affordable websites), but within a few years I found some amazing partners, landed a few wonderful clients and we discovered our niche in Creative Strategies, Non-Profit Management, Business Development and Public Relations. We currently focus on increasing public engagement for progressive charities while building the brands of their corporate partners.
